KM 02 – Legislative Framework for Built Environment

The purpose of this module is to equip learners with a comprehensive understanding of the legislative framework governing the built environment in South Africa. Learners will explore the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act, Ministerial Mandates, and other key legislation impacting the construction and development sectors. The module also covers the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (SPLUMA) and Municipal By-laws, emphasizing their role in regulating land use, building compliance, and sustainable development. By completing this module, learners will gain the knowledge required to interpret and apply legal requirements effectively, ensuring compliance and promoting responsible practices within the built environment.
